After years of conflict and economic decline, Yemen continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis. Nearly half the population is facing severe food insecurity, and more than 17.8 million people lack adequate access to healthcare, safe drinking water and sanitation services. The fragility of infrastructure and recurring epidemics further exacerbate the risks faced by families.

Children are particularly affected. Around 10.8 million of them are in need of humanitarian assistance, and nearly 500,000 could suffer from severe acute malnutrition in 2026. At the same time, millions of children remain deprived of education, whilst a significant proportion of health facilities are only partially operational or remain out of service. This combination jeopardises not only immediate survival, but also the physical, cognitive and social development of an entire generation.
Responding to this crisis requires maintaining food and nutritional aid whilst gradually restoring essential systems. The restoration of health facilities, continuity of education, access to water and the protection of livelihoods are essential conditions for recovery. Without sustainable support, malnutrition and exclusion will continue to fuel poverty, inequality and the country’s institutional fragility.
