The war continues to wreak havoc in Sudan, where more than 30 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. Nearly 19.5 million people are facing acute food insecurity, whilst millions of families have been forced to flee their homes.

In El Obeid, in North Kordofan, the situation is approaching breaking point. Drone strikes are hitting markets, petrol stations and the electricity and water infrastructure. The continuous influx of displaced people is placing extreme pressure on the city’s water, food and health services, as well as its capacity to accommodate them.
Needs are rising, whilst the response remains severely underfunded. The humanitarian appeal for Sudan had secured only around 41 per cent of the required funds by mid-August. Without a rapid scaling-up of assistance and protection for civilians, hunger, malnutrition and displacement will continue to spread.
