In the Central African Republic, armed violence, displacement and the persistent weakness of essential services are keeping a significant proportion of the population in a situation of extreme vulnerability. Around 2.3 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in 2026. Needs remain particularly high in the eastern and south-eastern prefectures, where alerts relating to displacement and insecurity remain frequent.

Affected families are facing difficulties in accessing food, healthcare, safe drinking water, education and protection. Incidents targeting humanitarian workers are reducing the capacity to respond in certain areas and delaying the delivery of aid. Children are at high risk of malnutrition, disruption to their schooling, violence and the weakening of community protection mechanisms.

The planned response prioritises 1.3 million of the most vulnerable people, but the challenge goes beyond immediate assistance. Strengthening health centres, schools, local institutions and livelihoods should help to gradually restore the capacities of these areas. Action that combines protection, essential services and local development is needed to reduce dependence on aid and sustainably strengthen the resilience of communities.
