In Myanmar, nearly one in four people are now facing acute food insecurity. Around 12.4 million people are going hungry, including one million at emergency levels. Nearly four million people remain displaced and more than 360,000 children are affected by acute malnutrition.

Fighting, access restrictions and disruption to key supply routes are hampering the delivery of aid. The average cost of a basic food basket has risen by 20 per cent since February, and by as much as 43 per cent in Rakhine State. Monsoon-related flooding is further exacerbating the situation by damaging homes, crops and water sources.

If food and energy prices continue to rise, a further five million people could slip into acute food insecurity. Expanding food, nutrition and health assistance remains essential to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.
