Bangladesh is hosting nearly 1.2 million Rohingya refugees, mainly in the overcrowded camps in Cox’s Bazar. Almost entirely dependent on aid, these communities are facing cuts in funding, a deterioration in essential services and growing risks to their protection.

This protracted crisis is now compounded by the effects of the monsoon. Flash floods and landslides in the south-east of the country have affected around 1.28 million people, caused at least 59 deaths and damaged more than 54,000 homes.
The combination of overcrowding, fragile shelters, contaminated water and reduced assistance is increasing health and social risks. Without sustainable support, refugees and host communities could face a rapid deterioration in their needs for food, water, healthcare and protection.
